A Few Tense Days Ago...

Intro:

So... Windows 8? Love it or hate it? So far I love it and I am NOT an early adopter... at all. In fact installing the latest Windows 8.1 upgrade for free (thank you Microsoft for not being the total shit we know you are and charging us for it) I had a total system meltdown.
That's right!

A TOTAL SYSTEM MELTDOWN.
The mere words make computer-boys all over the world wet themselves in fear.
Yup. I couldn't boot my computer... at all. NG. No Good. Nada. Access Negados! You Lose! You're a Loser! Thank you for playing and get off the set.

The Story:

I had literally salivated all day long, watching Google Sites, Microsoft Sites and all the good Nerd sites (love you) for the latest link to the Windows 8.1 upgrade! I REALLY couldn't wait! I was TOTALLY freaking out!

As soon as it (any link at all) was there I freaking clicking on it.
You wanna install a K(blah blah blah) update to my pc? Fine go for it, download it, install it and reboot? Sure! yay!...Whoo hoo...hoo. uh... what?...um...

Uh...

Ut oh...

BSOD! WTF?!! NO!

...Fine. Reset button.

These things happen. No big deal.

Wait wait wait.

Another BSOD! This one with some kind of fucking emoticon of "sadness". W-T-F?!

Fine! Shut down and wait a moment. Hard power Restart with fingers (seriously) crossed.

BSOD (again)... oh (kill me now...) fuck...

Realization: It's over. It's gone. It's really ALL gone. All of it!

I really had lost all of my profile settings and all user specific data. All of it. Gone. No backup. No trace.

To be fair to the big MS, "some" of that is my fault. I freely admit it. I hovered over the next button on "did you make a backup?" for a while, even though I had not made a backup. I figured 8 to 8.1 how big a leap is that? Really? Bigger than I thought.

So seriously, it was almost a teary eyed moment when I realized my PC was dead, no matter how many times I rebooted it, it was NOT going to start anything with a mouse or anything I could click on to get Windows to do anything at all.

I was, in short, ...devastated.

Action:

So what did I do? I whipped out out my Windows 8 CD/DVD and I reinstalled Windows 8. This took some time and I was soooo upset at having to do it, but finally I had a logon prompt and I used it.
Then... I installed the basics for me. Email, Firefox ,Visual Studio 2012,  etc.

A day later I did the Windows 8.1 update from the ISOs without ANY issues at all.

Conclusion:

So... Windows 8? Love it or hate it?

I must be a friggin' total dildo, because "old-school me", even after all of that... still loves it.
